The National Eligibility and Entrance Test - Post Graduate (NEET PG)

The National Eligibility and Entrance Test - Postgraduate (NEET PG) is a national-level medical entrance examination in India administered by the National Board of Examinations (NBE). The NEET PG exam serves as a gateway for students who wish to pursue postgraduate medical courses in India, such as MD/MS/PG Diploma. The exam is given once a year, and the results are used by various medical colleges and universities in India to admit students to postgraduate medical programmes.

NEET PG Eligibility Criteria

The following are the eligibility requirements for taking the NEET PG exam.

Candidates must have a Medical Council of India-recognized MBBS degree or provisional MBBS pass certificate (MCI).

Before taking the exam, candidates must have completed a one-year internship.

Candidates must be registered with the Indian Medical Council or a state medical council.

Pattern of the NEET PG Exam

The NEET PG exam will consist of 200 multiple-choice questions, according to the NEET PG 2024 paper pattern. The NEET PG 2024 question paper will be worth 800 points. Four points will be awarded for each correct answer, while one point will be deducted for each incorrect attempt. The exam questions are based on the syllabus for MBBS courses as prescribed by the Medical Council of India (MCI). The exam is only given in English.

The following is the distribution of questions in the NEET PG exam

  • 20% are pre-clinical subjects (Anatomy, Physiology, and Biochemistry)
  • 30% are non-clinical subjects (Pathology, Microbiology, Pharmacology, and Forensic Medicine)
  • 50% of clinical subjects (Medicine, Surgery, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Pediatrics, Ophthalmology, Orthopedics, ENT, Psychiatry, and Dermatology)

NEET PG Exam Schedule

Every year, the NEET PG exam is held in January. The exam registration process usually begins in November. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the exam dates for 2023 have yet to be announced. Candidates are advised to check the NBE's official website regularly for the most recent updates.

Syllabus for NEET PG Exam

The NEET PG exam syllabus is based on the MBBS course curriculum. The Medical Council of India (MCI) has prescribed the exam syllabus, which is divided into three parts: pre-clinical, para-clinical, and clinical subjects.

Registration for the NEET PG Exam

The NEET PG exam registration is done online through the National Board of Examinations' official website (NBE). During the registration process, candidates must provide personal, academic, and contact information. They must also upload their photograph, signature, and thumb impression in the format specified.

The registration fee for the exam varies depending on the candidate's category. The application fee is Rs. 3750 for general and OBC candidates, and Rs. 2750 for SC/ST/PWD candidates. The fee is payable online using debit/credit cards, net banking, or UPI.

Admit Card for The NEET PG Exam

The NEET PG Exam Admit Card is a required document that candidates must bring to the examination center. The National Board of Examinations (NBE) usually releases the admit card a few weeks before the exam date. Using their login credentials, candidates can download their admit cards from the NBE's official website.

The NEET PG Exam Admit Card includes important information such as the candidate's name, roll number, exam date, exam center information, photograph, and signature. Candidates must carefully review all of the information on their admit card to ensure that it is correct.

If there is an error in the information on the admit card, candidates should contact the exam organizers right away to have it corrected.

Along with the NEET PG Exam Admit Card, candidates must bring a valid photo ID proof to the examination center, such as an Aadhaar Card, Passport, Voter ID, PAN Card, or Driving License. Candidates who do not have their admit card or photo ID will not be allowed to take the exam.

It is recommended that candidates print their NEET PG Exam Admit Card and keep it safe until the admission process is completed. The admit card is a critical document that must be presented during the counselling process.

NEET PG Exam Admit Card and Exam Documents

The NEET PG Exam Admit Card is a required document that the candidate must bring to the examination center. It includes vital information such as the candidate's name, roll number, exam date, exam center information, photograph, and signature.

Photo ID Proof

In addition to the NEET PG Exam Admit Card, candidates must bring a valid photo ID proof to the examination center, such as an Aadhaar Card, Passport, Voter ID, PAN Card, or Driving License.

Certificate of Internship Completion

Candidates must carry a certificate from the head of the institution or the relevant authority of the institution where they completed their one-year internship.

Or a Provisional Pass Certificate recognized by the Medical Council of India (MCI).

MCI Registration Certificate

Candidates must bring their original MCI Registration Certificate or any State Medical Council Registration Certificate with them.

Passport-Size photo

Candidates must bring two passport-sized photos that they uploaded during the online registration process.

To avoid any inconvenience or last-minute confusion, candidates should prepare these documents ahead of time and bring them to the examination center. Candidates who fail to bring any of the above-mentioned documents will be denied entry to the exam.

Things not covered in the NEET PG Exam

Candidates taking the NEET PG Exam should not bring the following items to the examination center:

  • Electronic devices: Candidates are not permitted to bring any electronic devices to the examination center, including mobile phones, calculators, smart watches, tablets, or any other communication device.
  • Candidates are not permitted to bring any books, notes, or study material to the examination center.
  • Candidates are not permitted to bring any stationery items such as pencils, erasers, rulers, or any other material other than a ballpoint pen.
  • Candidates should not wear any jewellry or accessories to the examination center.
  • Candidates are not permitted to bring any bags or purses to the examination center.
  • Candidates are not permitted to bring any food or beverages to the examination center, except water in a clear bottle.
  • other prohibited items: Candidates may not bring any other prohibited items to the examination center.

Candidates found with any of the above-mentioned items, or any other prohibited item, will be denied entry to the examination center. Candidates should carefully read the instructions on the NEET PG Exam Admit Card and follow the guidelines issued by the National Board of Examinations (NBE).
