Introduction of Institute of Medicine (IOM), Nepal

One of Tribhuvan University of Nepal's five technical institutes is the Institute of Medicine (IOM) .Undergraduate, graduate, and doctorate programs are available at IOM. The institute has fifteen associated colleges throughout Nepal in addition to its eight component campuses. Maharajgunj Medical Campus in Kathmandu serves as its main campus.Through its main campus and its eight component campuses across the nation, the IOM offers 29 programs ranging from the highest postgraduate degree in medicine, public health, paramedical, nursing, and traditional Ayurvedic medicine to the proficiency certificate level.

The medical school admissions process in Nepal is extremely competitive due to the restricted number of available spaces. Private school tuition is extremely expensive and sometimes out of reach for the great majority of families. In government medical schools, full scholarships are awarded only to the top-ranked students.

The government has launched a few additional medical colleges in recent times. The Institute of Medicine served as the nation's sole government medical school for a considerable amount of time. Dr. Govinda KC has long argued for dismantling the educational "mafia" that exists in the private medical education system and is a supporter of medical education reform in Nepal.
